Louis Joliet discovered the Mississippi with his farther Jacques Marquette and canoed to the stared of it. They were in a canon and the canon tipped over they lost all there maps and hade to draw them again. He also explored the great lakes Area.
Voyages
The French governor of Quebec Louis de Buade Frontenac sent him on his journey. Louis Joliet took a compass and an astrolabe to find his way. On his journey they were worn that Spanish explorers or hostile Indians might capture them so they turned around. On his journey he was a cartographer because he could draw the ways he found.
After his journey
After he finished his journey he was given an island where he bulit a fortress called anticosti which was seized by England.
While in progress his wife was Captured and later realesed.
He also was rewarded on his fortress.
